Motorola's World Cup Camera Showdown: Razr Fold vs. Razr Ultra
As the official smartphone partner of the World Cup, Motorola offered me the chance to test its latest foldables on the biggest stage of all: soccer's biggest event. I brought along the Razr Fold and Razr Ultra, both of which have impressive camera setups, and compared their performance in various lighting conditions. While the Razr Ultra boasts a 50-megapixel wide-angle and ultrawide camera, along with a 50-megapixel selfie camera on the inside screen, the Razr Fold has 50-megapixel wide, ultrawide, and telephoto cameras, with a 20-megapixel selfie camera on the cover screen and a 32-megapixel selfie camera on the inside screen. So, which one came out on top?
In my opinion, the Razr Fold's preset 6x zoom option, which combines optical 3x zoom with sensor cropping, gives it an edge over the Razr Ultra's 2x zoom option. This allows for cleaner close-up shots, which is particularly useful for capturing the intense action on the field. Additionally, the Razr Fold's external selfie camera feels more natural to use, and people's gazes look more natural when taking an image using the external camera, rather than the one on the massive inside display. However, the Razr Ultra does have its strengths, such as its ability to serve up more saturated colors, which sometimes veer into harsher shadows, and its 50-megapixel wide-angle and ultrawide cameras.
Ultimately, the choice between the two phones comes down to personal preference. If you want to be able to punch in closer, the Razr Fold is the clear winner. If you prefer brighter overall images, the Razr Fold might be your top choice. The Ultra can serve up more saturated colors, which sometimes veer into harsher shadows, but oftentimes, pictures taken on both phones look pretty similar. So, whether you're a soccer fan or a tech enthusiast, the Razr Fold and Razr Ultra are both impressive devices that are worth considering for your next smartphone purchase.
