Serving Sussex
15th February 2010
Dear Resident,
As I am sure you are aware the Conservative Party is holding its annual Spring Conference at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Brighton on the 27h and 28th February 2010.
In light of this, we would like to invite you to the Metropole Hotel for a residents meeting at 7.30pm till 9.00pm on Monday 22nd February.
At the meeting there will be the opportunity for local residents to meet representatives from the police planning team, Metropole Hotel management and Brighton & Hove City Council. There will be a short presentation outlining the security arrangements associated with the event. The security measures differ from previous conferences and we do not expect them to severely impact upon local residents. The meeting will then move to a question and answer session where you will have opportunity speak to the organisations represented.
We look forward to seeing you.
Yours Faithfully

Each house in St. Margarets Place received a notice why not each flat in Sussex Heights? One on the notice board which was missed by three people I spoke to is inadequate. The resulting turnout will I am sure be disappointing.
Dear All,
Just a short update on the meeting held last night. We think that it was very useful for the Police, Brighton & Hove City Council and for the Hotel to hear first hand from local residents the issues and complaints that they have concerning how events such as these cause disruption and inconvenience to them. I thought it was a good turnout of 10 people, who very eloquently and robustly expressed their concerns to us. We were made aware that not all residents received an invite through their door. We apologise for this and we shall endeavour to find out why, as this was the intention.
One of the major concerns was the movement of heavy articulated vehicles during the get in and get out phases of the event. Although we did not have with us the details of the timings and size of the vehicles involved we now have that information and can share it with you if you require it. Please email me at the address below. Basically the plan involves 5 vehicles between 1200hrs and 1500hrs on the Thursday, and 27 vehicles on the Friday from 0800hrs and 1800hrs. Each and every vehicle is known to us and many of them are actually cars and Ford Transit size vehicles.
The event organiser is planning for the get out phase on Sunday afternoon to also be well planned to minimise disruption. This will involve using Canon Place only to load vehicles, and not St Margaret’s Place. The get out phase will commence at 1530hrs.
The second issue that was raised was illegal parking around the hotel, particularly those that obstruct the footpath. I can confirm that our staff will be briefed to deal with these in a positive manner.
We confirmed that during the running of the event on Saturday and Sunday there will not be an entrance or exit for delegates from the hotel in St Margaret’s Place. We hope therefore that pedestrian movements in this area associated with this event shall be very minimal.
Finally, a reminder that if you wish to raise an issue during Saturday or Sunday then please call the police control room direct on 01273 665870. At other times please call 0845 6070999 and ensure that your message gets flagged for the attention of ‘Operation Otter’.
Can I end by reminding you that one of the key intentions of our operation is to minimise disruption to the local communities. We heard what you said last night and will endeavour to act positively to address your concerns, and I sincerely hope you are not unduly inconvenienced by the event.
Regards
Lawrence Hobbs
